Today my team and I got back on our bikes for the first time since we lost Jamie. We knew Jamie would want us to keep biking and that was all the motivation we needed to start pedaling again. We made a team decision to cut the day short at only 20 miles (Jamie's number) and shuttle the rest of the way to the host to minimize the stress of getting back on the bike. The day turned out to be a beautiful one, and on our way out of Kentucky we got to cross over a beautiful running/biking bridge where we got to see into the city and across the river into Indiana.
It was only 7 miles into our ride so the team met up at the top and enjoyed the view together. Right across the bridge was Indiana! We were so happy to be out of Kentucky. After that it was only 13 miles to lunch, and from there we hopped into the vans to shuttle about 50 miles to our host. That night, the team went out to dinner near the University of Indiana to watch the World Cup and walk around the town a little bit. Then we headed back to our awesome host to get some sleep (they had couches which was glorious) and prepare for the next day, our first full day back. I want to give a huge shoutout to Brian and Krissy, two of the staff from the Ulman Cancer Fund, for being with our team to support us for the past couple days. They have been nothing but helpful and loving and we appreciate them so much! We made sure to give them each a sweaty/smelly group hug before they left us. So glad my team and I got 20 miles done for Jamie today, and took a big step getting back on our bikes. Many more miles to come for her, stay tuned :)
