I didn't have the smoothest start to my day when I hopped on my bike and immediately had a flat tire...in my zombie- like 5 AM state I had left the valve on one of my tires open after I pumped it up, so when I hopped on it to start biking it went flat in about 2 seconds. So I delayed my group about 10 minutes (sorry guys) but then we were on our way to get our second century started! We were in larger groups than normal for the day, so I was with 7 of my other teammates. Walt and Caitlyn, the two oldest of our entire team, were part of our group so the whole day we joked around, calling them "mom" and "dad" and annoying them as best as we could. We called ourselves "Walt and Cait plus eight" and successfully assumed the role of a big, dysfunctional family for the day :).
The ride was long, hot, and we had a bad headwind that we had to face for a few parts, but our van drivers were awesome and supportive, providing us with an awesome lunch, blasting music while we were riding, entertaining us while driving past, and even mooning us a few times as they drove by. We get a little too comfortable with eachother after so many hours spent together...
My group had a blast at each water stop, including lots of laughs and dance parties. Our last few miles into our host were rough roads but it was all made better when we finally reached the town sign and soon after biked into our wonderful host to a big dinner that we had with their congregation.
After dinner, a van of us decided to drive to the Kansas border to see the state sign because we were only 8 miles away! We love to get any extra state sign pictures that we can :). The night was beautiful and we got to watch the sunset at the state border. It was a great end to the day, and I still can't believe that we have already biked this far West. The routes seem to keep getting prettier and prettier, so I am looking forward to the days ahead!
