This morning we had a massive dedication circle with both teams: Portland & San Fran before we began the day's ride. Because of noise complaints from neighbors in past years, we all had to squish inside the church to do our dedication and cheers because we are quite a loud bunch for 7 AM in the morning! We pied one of the boys on San Fran in the face with an old cake we were going to throw out (luckily he was a good sport!) and also got to hear San Fran's cheer. Theirs was awesome and definitely put ours to shame…we are going to have to step up our game and add some more on to get on their level!
Riding groups that day each got one alumni to ride with, and my group (Chelsea, Marge, Chris and I) got to ride with another Chelsea from last year's Portland team. She just graduated from UMD and did the triathlon team there so we had lots to chat about while we biked :).
The ride today was short (only ~60 miles) and beautiful as we could see the Rockies in the distance (we were riding parallel to them) and there was no humidity at all (such a change from VA heat!). It also happened to be July 11th so of course we took advantage of the fact that it was free slurpee day at 7-11! My group only stopped at one but I know that some other group stopped for a second and third throughout the day…Not sure how that felt when they got back on their bikes though :). For lunch we stopped at a beautiful garden that was filled with these really neat sculptures. After eating, Chelsea and I ran around to pose with all of them and goof off (something we've gotten really good at this summer!).
On our way into Fort Collins, we got to ride through another college campus - Colorado State University - and head to their bookstore to grab some stickers for our bike. This campus is so bike friendly it is awesome - they even have a free bike repair shop next to their bookstore! I could definitely get used to that! Our host for the night was a recreation center and we weren't provided dinner, so we headed to downtown to grab something to eat as well as go to a laundromat to clean our smelly biking gear. Tomorrow I will be on van duty as we head into Wyoming which will be a good rest for my awful saddle sores (don't ask)…Here's to being through another state and on to a next one!
