We had a gorgeous ride today through Medicine Bow National Forest. It was "date day" for riding groups so we got to pick our one "date" out of a hat for one teammate to ride with! I picked Chelsea (Seattle 2012 alumni) out of the hat and got to spend the whole day with her! She just moved to Boulder which is why she was able to join up with us for a few days. We had lots of climbing but also gorgeous scenery and open roads (our favorite!). Wyoming is amazing - huge pine forests, mountain and rock formations made up the terrain we rode through today. We were also super excited because we all got free stickers that said "Bike Wyoming" at a rest stop on the Lincoln Highway (fun fact: that rest stop was the highest point on transcontinental interstate 80 between NY & San Fran!). I'm really glad I got to spend so much time with Chelsea today. I got to hear fun stories about her 4K experience and she gave me lots of good advice for school, studying abroad and picking a major.
As we entered into Laramie, we saw the University of Wyoming and could just barely see the ice caps of the Rockies in the distance. Once we arrived at the host, we had to say goodbye to our new friends, all of the awesome alumni! We gave them a friendly goodbye by smashing some cupcakes in their face which somehow turned into a cupcake war and my face/neck being covered in blue icing! Never a dull moment with my teammates :).
That night, our host provided us with a wonderful dinner and afterwards we each introduced ourselves and told them all about the 4K and our journey. We have met the most giving people as we've travelled across the country. So thankful for this host and all that we've had previously!
Now we are off to sleep to rest our legs for the climb we face tomorrow…the Rockies! We're a little nervous but more excited to see the snowcaps up close. :) Stay tuned to hear about it!
