Today we had 45 miles through the middle of nowhere Ohio. There were farms and fields for miles and miles. It was nice to be away from cars and traffic and have some peace and quiet on the road. At our first water stop of the day we were joined by a super cute golden retriever that must have been from one of the surrounding farms. He hung out with us and then ran by our sides for about a mile as we biked off before he headed home. We decided to name him Portland and were sad we couldn't bring him with us! The ride was pretty uneventful beyond seeing lots of open fields and cows. At one point we even had to move out of the road because a gigantic tractor that took up two whole lanes was coming through and would've wiped us out. We were definitely in farm country!
We got to the host early in the afternoon and were able to shower, nap and relax. The church we stayed at brought us a really good dinner and then a big group of us played Cards Against Humanity (just like Apples to Apples, but way more inappropriate...) and were dying laughing. I think all of us could have fun doing anything together which is really awesome considering we just met eachother a week ago! Also I want to give a big shoutout to my bike for not breaking yet and for no flat tires (knock on wood)! Lots of people have been having bike issues from hitting potholes and gravel and the like. Hopefully I can avoid that by keeping up with bike maintenance and cleaning. I have definitely learned a ton about how the bike works thanks to the seasoned pros on our team. Week one = done! Tomorrow we are moving on to Mansfield!
